During the late 12th century, an infirmary was erected on the Stockwood Estate in Farley Hill. This old hospital was partially restored and expanded to accommodate a museum that exhibits the Mossman Collection, a vast collection of horse-drawn carriages and other vehicles, in addition to locally found artefacts, a historical Stockwood Discovery Garden, and a craft centre.
The estate was built after World War II to replace houses destroyed by German bombers. The design of the estate mainly consists of residential housing, which was considered innovative at the time of its construction, featuring a shopping area in the centre of a large roundabout and a broad avenue extending from the centre to the edge of Stockwood Park. Farley Hill is home to two junior schools: St. Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic School, which opened in 1960 to serve the large, primarily Irish, Roman Catholic community, and Farley Junior School, which opened in 1952.
